This last weekend was spent in San Francisco with my wife! It was a weekend vacation we both needed, and we’re excited to have had. We flew into San Francisco on Thursday night, had a motorcycle class Friday morning, then went to visit my Grandpa Ririe Friday evening. Then we wandered the piers, farmers markets, and Alcatraz Saturday, and flew home Sunday. It was great!

I just got a new camera: Fujifilm XE-1 with the 35mm f1.4, and I tested it out here in San Francisco. I’ll have to write up a review later about this camera (so far), but I’m happy with these photographs! Here’s a few shots from our wanderings:

Lightroom 3 Setup Tutorial

Here’s a tutorial series I actually made in 2011 for setting up Adobe Lightroom 3 for the first time. Lightroom is great, but must be setup and organized correctly otherwise you’ll have a mess (in my opinion ). These tutorials are meant to be followed along. So turn one on and work along with me!

Yes, it requires some initial setup, and it requires some overall folder structure organization… but if you don’t do it now, it’ll just get worse. So take this opportunity to get yourself in order. You’ll be glad you did!

Utah Valley

The other day I went on a beautiful hike with my wife and son starting at Dry Canyon in Utah Valley, then north along the Bonneville trail. It was fun. The wild flowers were open, the crickets were playing their instruments, a Racer Snake slithered away from us, and the clouds made incredible patterns in the sky. This is where I grew up, Utah Valley. I always thought other cities must be jealous because they didn’t have the beautiful mountains and lake in the same valley. There’s adventures here, waiting to be seen and heard.

Graduation

I officially graduated on April 27th, 2012 from Utah Valley University with my Bachelors of Fine Arts with an emphasis in photography. Wow, that’s a mouthful. I am very thrilled to have completed one of my lifelong goals, one which has been on my mind as either a burden or a pleasure for the last twelve or so years. I really enjoyed my time at UVU, which is why I decided to go back after taking a break from school for so long. I have had some amazing faculty who have pushed and inspired: Travis Lovell, John Rees, Courtney Davis, Barb Frazier, Roger Tuttle, Dr. Steve Bule, and many others. I have had an incredible group of fellow students that have similarly stretched and inspired. I feel happy.

This post would go down in flames if I didn’t also include how incredibly amazing my family has been through all this. Natalie, Kaitlyn, Hannah, and Lincoln. I couldn’t have done it without them, seriously. I am forever in their debt, and I’m thrilled for the adventures that lie ahead for us.

Photography is a beautiful medium. One that is being explored exponentially throughout humanity. The opportunities to make a difference are unlimited, and I plan too. If I’m to do good with the talents I’ve been given, I had better work hard. I hope you continue to follow along as this journey is going to pick up in interest real quick. Thank you all for your love and support!

Here is an incredible man, Dr. Steve Bule. I spent a month with him in Italy in 2010, learning, and being inspired. He is powerful, and has such a great energy and passion for art history.

Dr. Newell Dailey presented me with my diploma. He is a wonderful dean for the School of the Arts.

It’s a graduation for us all! I love my family!

Motorcycle Ride

A couple weeks ago I ran out with a couple other friends with bikes on a morning ride. We started in Orem and went around Utah Lake. It was a blast. Along the way we stopped a couple times to take a few pictures. There was a lot to see and take in when we weren’t cruising down the long roads. Utah Lake was beautiful, as usual. We also stopped so I could photograph my bike… ahhh… good times.

A Visit to Chico

My wife and I drove out to Chico, CA this week to visit Chico State University. I was accepted to the MFA program there, and we wanted to see the city, meet the faculty, and see the school. It was a fantastic trip, and Chico is beautiful, the faculty were very honest and nice, and we might just move there. Here are some of the photographs I took along the trip.

I needed to make some photographs of my family, as I’m using them to make some other prints. I wanted to show them off a little bit. I am happy to be living my life with them. Over the past few years as I’ve been finishing my schooling, they’ve been my biggest supporters. If you ever have the pleasure, you would be blessed to get to know my favorite people in the world!

We’re in a transition point in our lives, and we’ve got big things ahead of us. I’m excited for the adventures that will be in our near future.

I’m currently taking a drawing class, and I needed to photograph some reference material for my next drawing assignment. The drawing assignment is black and white charcoal on toned paper. I wanted to draw something meaningful… so I decided to draw my bike! This morning I went to UVU and photographed it. I liked some of the pictures so I edited them a bit and wanted to share them with you.

Here’s my ride! My 2006 Yamaha Roadstar Warrior. I’ve got quite a few other plans for the bike, but for now this is how she stands.

KSL and Now I Can

Yesterday was one day that will go down as incredibly special to me. I started out finishing the final preparations for my exhibition opening. At 2:00 I met up with Brooke Walker with KSL to do a little interview about the exhibition. I was nervous, and I was tired, but they made me feel comfortable. It’s easy to talk about Now I Can, and the amazing patients there. Here is the coverage they showed last night:

After the interview, I had an amazing evening with some of the most wonderful people. It was a night to remember. I’ll write another blog post soon about that night. So stay tuned!

Introducing Lincoln

This is Lincoln, he’s my main man. It’s amazing how excited I am to have a son in my home, finally .

Lincoln came to us just over three weeks early, and surprised us. He has grown quickly, and in the last few months has really became a good friend. I’m impressed at how quickly he smiles and laughs. Between messy diapers and hunger strikes, he can roll the laughs right off. He’s also completely different from his older sisters, as they were always too small for the specified size of clothes… Link on the other hand, is already smashing into a size bigger than is suggested (yet he’s still only in the 27th percentile, interesting).

I can’t wait to continue to get to know my son!
