Earlier this semester I was given an assignment where I was required to mix media. I was excited because I’d been wanting to draw all over my pictures for a while, plus I felt like there was something I wanted to say. This here is a social commentary on capitalism and consumerism. As you can see, I drew all over the print. I also airbrushed the red stencils into place. This project [...]

I was given an assignment to illustrate one of the seven deadly sins. I did some research and came up with some fun concepts for each of the sins. I first associated each with a face card. I also found that each sin can be represented by certain animals. Pride is the horse, wrath is the bear, and interestingly enough… Lust is the cow. A friend of mine had a skull that [...]

What do you think of my new blog? Over the past few weeks I’ve been conceptualizing my ideas. Before that I was determined to complete the new design. I wanted a change in my professional identity, something that was a little more “me”. So, here’s a few notes on some things that I’ve made sure happened: I hate scrolling through a page a mile long full of pictures… so I thumbnailed each [...]

I have been blogging for a while now. I re-built my website and blog back in the spring of 2009. Now that I have a whole lot more followers and fans it may be time for an upgrade. I know lots of you are big bloggers and follow lots of other blogs. I’d like it to be a smooth experience, an easy to navigate blog! This will be my first step in [...]

So, my final assignment for my typography class was to develop a print layout based on math. Earlier this semester in my photography class I had another assignment to make a pinhole camera. So, I decided to combine my knowledge of my pinhole camera and develop it into my math assignment… hence the title: The numbers within a picture. Basically, I’d like to share my article with you, in case you’re interested [...]

Last week I went to a lecture class where a BYU graphic/media design professor came to teach us for an hour. He was incredibly energetic and loved what he was doing. As with most graphic designers, Brent Barson loves typography and the visual impact a message can have when typography is done well. I wanted to put two little video clips on from his presentation from the Typophile film festival (opening credits). [...]

Well… tonight, me and my girls decided to paint with light! I gave them a flash light, and I used my camera to take the pictures. It was so much fun, and they loved it! So… here’s to a little creativity from the fresh of mind! Enjoy!

I have been pounded lately with thoughts on my personal creativity. I think these thoughts always come around when I’ve progressively found myself too much in front of the TV (well… college football has started), or some other form of idle living. I’m completely filled with jealousy as I continuously come in contact with or stumble upon people who are bursting with creative ideas! So, what am I doing to develop my [...]

So this time we had to do a self portrait without painting ourselves. It took me a very long time to get a grasp on what I wanted to paint! Finally I started looking into something that’s important to me, and something that would tell a lot about me… my dreams! I started listing them off… things I enjoy, things I dream about, my goals, my desires. I came up with a [...]

For this assignment I was to reduce whatever I was going to paint to just a handful of values, then I had to convert the values to a similar color value from the color wheel. So, I took this picture of a chopper I had taken earlier this year. I liked the composition, and I was sure it would be a great project. I reduced it down to six values and then [...]
