The Guardians

I’ve recently been photographing or scanning some of my older work that wasn’t originally a digital file.  Some of this work has been included in my graduate school applications.  I would love to show some of it off, as it’s all work that is very important and meaningful to me. This piece I made for the UVU Student Art Show which was held at the Woodbury Museum back in April 2011.  These [...]

Here is the second wallpaper for the series of downloads.  This is St Peters Basilica, located in the Vatican in the heart of Rome.  This square is usually swarmed with people, but this long exposure made them disappear.  You can find more images from this blog post: Rome on Film. You can download this wallpaper in the following sizes (Please right-click on the following links and click “Save Link As”): 1024×768 1280×768 [...]

What Italy did for me!

What Italy did for me!

Saturday, July 17, 2010

I’ve put this down in different ways multiple times over the last month, and marvelously I keep digging more out of my experiences!  In reality, I hope my 6 weeks in Italy continue to change my life for the better for the rest of my life.  I hope to continue to increase my lessons learned list, and apply them. A brief history of my Italian experience begins last October, 2009!  I was [...]

Florence on Film

Florence on Film

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

Florence was a glorious place to be.  I hope that if you ever visit Italy, you take some time to head to Florence for a few days to take in all the Renaissance history.  Though I was there for over two weeks, I only actually spent a handful of days walking the streets… we went out on many day trips while we were stationed here. The heart of Florence has all the [...]

Assisi… My Favorite!

Assisi… My Favorite!

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Assisi, Italy was my first day trip outside of Rome, our first train ride, and our first missed train!  Our group was never late again!  I seems like yesterday as we were all running down the train station line, and watching the train budge forward as we were racing forward.  We got on the next train a few hours later, and still made it to Assisi. Assisi is very small, and felt [...]

Are you ready for this!?  Rome was my original first destination, after which I spent time in many other places over the course of 4 more weeks.  I eventually rounded my way back to Rome as my final destination.  Film was my more sacred medium compared to digital, so I was excited to see my negatives after I got home!  These are all images of Rome captured on different films with different [...]

Venice

Venice

Thursday, July 1, 2010

After 5 weeks in Italy, I was ready for Venice.  Not only did that mean that I had just taken my final for the semester the day before, but I was finally going to see Natalie again!  We walked up to our hotel and there she was!  To be honest I was surprised she made it… she had two stops before getting to Venice. Venice was different from anything I’d experienced thus [...]

Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

I was privileged to spend two nights camping just north of Cinque Terre in Delvia Marina.  Cinque Terre stands for “Five Lands” and is five small towns along the west coast of Italy.  The names of these little towns are Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.  We had two half days and one full day to discover this beautiful place. Our full day was spent hiking between the five towns, [...]

Siena

Siena

Thursday, June 17, 2010

Siena was one of my more favorite places to visit while in Italy.  I loved the ancient architecture, the town is still so originally medieval!  The castle (city center), the homes, the pavement, the stairways, and their churches. I could have walked these streets for days and never tired of the character.  The cathedral of Siena was one of my favorites from my entire experience in Italy.  The Gothic facade and busy [...]

Pisa

Pisa

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

Yes, there really is a leaning tower… and Yes, they have stopped the lean. The Pisa bell tower is actually 189 feet tall.  It started its shift only 5 years after it was built, in the late 12th century.  The tower leans due to a poor foundation system in poor substrate… that equals disaster!  Recent restorations have stopped the lean and actually improved how much it tilts! Besides the leaning tower of [...]
