I have no idea where these buildings are… There’s so much of the same that it all blends together, and you have to see things differently in order to find order in the chaos. Textures, shapes, and space is what made me interested in what I was seeing in New York. Then you bring your eyes down to eye level again, and all you see is diversity again. New York is [...]

I’ve always loved the design of the Chrysler Building in New York. It’s probably my favorite building there, which is funny that I didn’t make an effort to actually go see it. One afternoon while wandering alone, I wanted to get an interesting view of the Art Deco structure. After visiting Grand Central Station, I headed down the street until I got to 315 Madison. This is one of my favorite photographs [...]

On top of getting the VIP experience in New York, we had lunch in Brooklyn at Grimaldis, a delicious pizzeria New York style. It was fantastic, and we drank home brewed root beer and creme soda. After visiting with some photographers in the area, we also passed by Jacques Torres (Mr. Chocolate) for some edible souvenirs. While wandering this part of New York, I liked the views of both the Brooklyn Bridge, [...]

Whenever I get to places where I can see forever, I always remember my daughter saying, “Look Dad, I’m on top of the world!” From the top of the Empire State Building, you feel like you’re on top of the world, literally. It was a beautiful sight, the city seemed to go on forever. The city lights creating a unique texture and patterns. The freezing temperatures and biting wind kept the crowds [...]

I love cars a lot. I love cars so much that if money wasn’t an issue it’d go towards cars… but I don’t think I’d own one if I lived in New York City! One photographer I spoke too mentioned that the parking spaces in his apartment building were for sale, and that each had a hefty price tag of $150,000! Yup, for a parking spot. Plus everyone drives around like it’s [...]

One afternoon of wandering around New York introduced me to some fantastic parts of the city. The city just has so much character and personality. There’s history everywhere and a community adapting and living in buildings that were created long ago. I was wandering in the Chelsea area and I noticed the cobble stone, the fire escape, the textures of the building, and then the taxi. This is one of my favorite [...]

I was hoping that some of my night cityscapes would have the two bright beams of light where the twin towers fell. I was informed that those bright lights only shine the week of September 11th. Plus, from what I understand, they’re not going to do it much longer. This photograph is looking south, and the twin towers would have been located on the right of the frame where there’s a gap. [...]

The Empire State building can really been seen from all over once you get up a little ways. We had a fun dinner with a very talented touch-up artist, Joey Moon. He then invited us to go to his roof where we had great views of Manhattan. The humidity in New York goes straight to the bone, and freezes… no matter what you’re wearing. It was cold and windy, and we all [...]

I enjoy museums. I enjoyed the day I spent in the Musuem of Modern Art in New York. There was some incredible art both from their permanent collection, and from current exhibitions. The building itself is quite interesting, and while moving from one room to the next the sun was in just the right place at the right time. So, I created my own art out of the MoMA. Camera: Mamiya 6 [...]

When I looked straight ahead in New York I saw long corridors of scattered light, scaffolding, taxis, flashing signs, and people walking in every direction. When I looked up, I saw shapes, negative space, textures, and incredible architecture. My group happened to stop for a few seconds here in front of this building, and as I looked up I realized I needed to move a couple steps to align the flag pole [...]
