My Artist Statement

My Artist Statement

Friday, September 3, 2010

I am an artist.  I am a photographer.  Photography is my creative lifestyle and the medium which allows me to study more than life.  My art provides a channel for me to discover and visually sound my voice, and to exponentially build creativity.  Photography stretches me.  I am attracted to the capturing of the real moment, which in its non-manipulated form has integrity.  I relate to photography and usually feel involved, affected, [...]

Fields and Falls

Fields and Falls

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Eastern Idaho is filled with beautiful country.  The hard working people farm this land and work hard at it too.  The eastern border is blocked off with the Grand Tetons (see third image down).  Among this rich land is dotted huge and unique waterfalls, along with stripes and zig-zaggs of rivers and streams.  The long sky goes for as far as the eye can see, sunsets are gorgeous.  This really is a [...]

A Broken Heart

A Broken Heart

Monday, August 30, 2010

I was pleasantly surprised when I actually had a teacher that gave me a real assignment on the first day of class.  Seems like most teachers these days are attempting to be too nice, but I appreciated feeling like I was in finals week this past weekend!  Weird? So, my advanced photo class is going to have an editorial approach where we’re working for and satisfying the wants and needs of an [...]

Rexburg Temple

Rexburg Temple

Monday, August 30, 2010

On our path to Island Park, Idaho, we passed through Rexburg, Idaho!  Interestingly enough, I spent two semesters living in the remote little city back in 2000.  That was a long time ago, and this was the first time that I’ve been back!  Since I was there they have built a new temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  It sits atop the hill and you can see it [...]

Ririe, Idaho

Ririe, Idaho

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Yes… people in eastern Idaho don’t seem to have the problem of pronouncing my last name like they do every where else in the world.  There is a little city, just north of Idaho Falls, and just south of Rexburg called Ririe.  You can tour the entire city in about 5 minutes, if you were walking slow! My family and I were on our way out to Island Park when we decided [...]

Sneak Peak at Yellowstone

Sneak Peak at Yellowstone

Monday, August 23, 2010

Last week was spent in the eastern Idaho areas.  We were spending some great time with my family in the Island Park area, floating the Snake, plus visits up into Yellowstone.  It’s inspiring and beautiful country, and I’m so glad I was able to spend a week there. I shot most of my stuff while there on film, and I’m still waiting to get my scans back.  So, in the meantime, here’s [...]

Our Cowgirl

Our Cowgirl

Friday, August 20, 2010

The other day we spent a wonderful evening with some good friends.  Their new house and area are worthy of pure coveting!  We had a great dinner with them, then they took us out to the back to check out the horses.  My daughter, Hannah, was thrilled to be with these huge beasts.  The newest baby nibbled at her hand with soft gums.  The large mother was happy someone would keep bringing [...]

My Girls!

My Girls!

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

There’s not a whole lot better than my girls… Hannah just turned 3, which seems just as terrible as 2!  She’s very independent in both action and thought.  Kaitlyn is about to go into kindergarten, she’s a whoppin’ 5!  She is so creative and has blossomed into an self taught artist!  Natalie, my sweetie, is my dear wife.  We’ve been married now for 7 years (as of August 15th, the day I’m [...]

Cascade Springs

Cascade Springs

Monday, August 16, 2010

The other day I took my family up to beautiful Cascade Springs.  The drive alone is amazing as you cruise through either Provo Canyon, or American Fork Canyon.  We took the American Fork Canyon road up, had the windows down and enjoyed the crisp clean air.  The peaceful sound of water falling all around was both soothing and enjoyable.  A gorgeous night. On our way home, we continued on to Midway.  This [...]

Happy Birthday Hannah!

Happy Birthday Hannah!

Saturday, August 14, 2010

My daughter turned three on July 25th, so a few days before we had a fun friend party!  A bunch of the neighborhood kids came over to play some water games, get faces painted, and eat cupcakes.  They were all so kind to come along! I got down at the level of the kids and shot these with my Holga.  I didn’t cross process these this time (where usually I do when [...]
